Portugal Laurel (Prunus lus. Angustifolia) hedge is a stunning evergreen shrub with polished dark green leaves. The young stems have a deep red tinge to them which makes a nice contrast. When clipped regularly it will form a dense hedge that makes a great boundary to a garden or back drop to display of more seasonal plants. It is suitable for most soil types including shallow chalky soils and is also more resistant to cold weather than the Common or Cherry Laurel. Due to the shape and size of the leaves it makes a great alternative to sweet Bay especially in colder areas. If left untrimmed it will have some lovely white candle like flowers followed by small dark purple fruit.
Portugal Laurel (Prunus lus. Angustifolia) hedge will make a great privacy hedge and is also a good plant for cover and shelter for wildlife.
